What is an AI stock picker?
Quick answer
An AI stock picker is software that uses machine learning or other statistical models to rank, score or suggest individual stocks to buy, sell or watch.
AI stock picker, explained
Most AI stock pickers take in price history, fundamentals, analyst estimates and sometimes news or sentiment data, then output a ranked list of stocks, a score per stock or a set of trade ideas. The model behind the output is usually proprietary, so you see the result but not the full reasoning.
They differ a lot in time horizon. Some aim at holding periods of weeks or months, others suggest intraday trades. That matters more than the label "AI": a tool built for day trading is a poor fit for a long-term investor, and the other way round.
A pick is a probability estimate, not a guarantee. Before paying, check whether the vendor publishes a full, dated record of past picks against a benchmark such as the S&P 500, and whether that record includes the losers as well as the winners.
Example
An AI stock picker might show a ranked list of 20 US stocks each morning, with the model's top-rated names first and a short note on which factors drove each rating.
